Dandelions

Dandelions are my favorite flower.

I know, technically, that they are weeds.  I know that they choke out the grass, and that they ruin the lawn, and that they are a pain in the butt to dig up once they've taken root.

But there is something really exceptional about a dandelion.   I love blowing the seeds and making a wish as they float away on the breeze (of the roughly 16,732 dandelion seed wishes I have made in my lifetime, approximately 14,394 have come true).  I love the cheerful yellow they add to the landscape. I love that, even as they're being cursed and sprayed with weedkiller and dug up by the roots, they have a way of popping up again- stolidly declaring their right to exist on that patch of soil, and to do it with a bold burst of yellow.  Dandelions will not be ignored.

You've got to admire a flower like that.
